First Day

Do not water the first day. This will allow the hydroseeding slurry to set up.

Second Day - Set Your Clock

Begin your watering process by setting your timer to water four times a day for short periods. Approximate watering times are 8:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Stations with pop-up spray heads should be set to water approximately three to five minutes per time. Stations with larger heads should be set to water approximately eight to fifteen minutes per time. Water uniformly so that your hydroseed mix will remain moist within the top 1” of soil. Do not allow standing water on your lawn area.

After Approximately Ten to Fourteen Days

If the weather conditions are good and you have kept your lawn area moist, germination should begin to appear. As soon your grasses have grown to ¼” or more.  It is important that you begin a fertilization program. The initial nitrogen fertilizer applied with the hydroseeding application is being quickly carried through the soil by the frequent watering. Follow the application rates recommended by the fertilizer manufacturer.

Third and Fourth Week

Depending on the temperature and the growth of your lawn begin changing your watering schedule from four times per day to two to three times per day. Continue lawn maintenance as recommended by your Lawn Care Professional.

Fifth Week

Continue to water your new lawn at least once to twice a day. Begin to water for longer periods to encourage deep root development.

Each lawn is unique and actual times and results may vary.  Keeping people and animals off your lawn for the first six weeks will improve outcomes. Investing in a moisture meter is recommended as it can protect from over or under watering. Over watering can be just as damaging as under watering your new lawn.
